We're half way through the week, and I'm craving a little magic in my life. What I'm beginning to realize is that magic doesn't just come to you. No, you need to seek it out! You need to give yourself material to draw inspiration from, put yourself in situations that allow for free thinking and creativity. Here is my magical material for the week...
1. Art. Lately, I've found myself drawn to fiber art, with bright colors and familiar textures. This week, I'm hoping to check Natsuko Hattori's exhibit at the Lobby Gallery. Her sculptures are made of her recently deceased grandmother's clothing and formed into the shape of her grandmother's favorite flowering tree.
2. Books. What am I reading right now? The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. This is also a favorite of Lexi Bella's - whose interview you should check out, if you haven't! I've actually read this book before, and I've developed a daily habit of doing the 'morning pages.' There's no better way to start the day than writing. Even if you're not an artist, or an aspiring artist, I highly encourage you to check this book out. Get into that creative flow!
3. Events. I've been meaning to get to Pioneer Works for a long time. I know, I know...It's way out in Red Hook. But! This Sunday they have open studios by artists and scientists-in-residence and live music. Checking out art and dancing the night away sounds like a great start to any week.
